Tours of our fire stations are available to school, scout and other community groups. There is no better way to learn about the lives of firefighters while they are at the firehouse!

Upon arrival, all visitors are welcomed by their own “tour guide” (an on-duty Jeffersontown firefighter). The station tour begins with a peek at where the firefighters live, eat and sleep while they are on duty. Visitors will see the firefighters’ bunk rooms, exercise rooms, living rooms (lounges) and a huge kitchen where they can all eat together (most firefighters are very good cooks!).

Next, it’s on to the apparatus bay where the fire engine and truck are kept. Visitors will view the insides of the cabs where the firefighters ride, including the headsets they use to communicate while moving on down the road. And what would a trip to the firehouse be without experiencing the lights and sirens that sound each time the fire companies leave the station on an emergency run?

Finally, the firefighters will don their turnout gear – the special clothing that protects them from the heat and smoke of a fire. As each item is put on, children are able to see that a fully-protected firefighter is not scary, but safe. A fully protected firefighter is one who will help the children escape from a fire.

Birthday Party Tours
Birthday party groups are welcome to tour our fire stations. However, JFPD is unable to accommodate birthday parties.

Please note: JFPD requires at least two weeks advance notice to schedule a station tour.
