Fire Prevention
It’s never too late to start learning about fire prevention and life safety! Although many adults may have learned about “Stop, drop and roll” and “Stay low and go” from children and grandchildren, many have not been through the basics of conducting home fire safety inspections or developing emergency escape plans. In addition, as we get older, we face different life-safety challenges than our younger counterparts. Our Fire Prevention Bureau is available to speak to your group at no cost.

Please note: JFPD requires at least two weeks advance notice to schedule a presentation.

Visit the National Fire Protection Association to view and download free information on a wide variety of fire and life safety topics, including causes of fire, emergency preparedness, escape planning, fire and safety equipment, gasoline and propane, holiday safety, outdoor hazards and specific populations (i.e., older adults, people with disabilities or urban/rural communities).

For additional emergency preparedness, visit the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA’s website provides information to help you prepare, plan and stay informed for a wide variety of emergency situations, including: floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms and lightning, winter storms and extreme cold, extreme heat, earthquakes and wildland fires.
